From the parking lot on a forest road with good shortcuts over open meadows upwards to Hafeichtalm. Here it becomes steep, and the search for the safest ascent route begins until the ridge is reached. The ground consists of dwarf pines and steep grassy mats; after clear nights and supportive crust, the use of crampons can be useful in the summit area.
The descent to Hafeichtalm is a true pleasure on firn snow before a road section follows. The further descent towards the motorway rest area Tauernalm is interesting. The price for this is a short pushing section before the road allows sliding again back to the starting point.

The route description is deliberately kept rough; it is assumed that an appropriate map is available and route planning is done. In the area of the Hafeichtalm, the specific route choice depends on the current snow and avalanche situation.
The GPS track can in some areas indeed deviate somewhat from the described route.
Roadbook
Parking lot Kaltenstein (1150, about 250m after the large ski mountaineer parking lot at Schilcheck, Benzeck and Liebeseck) – under the A10, then right – between 2 huts – Zehenthof huts (1275) - forest road to Hafeichtalm (shortcuts over open slopes possible) – Hafeicht chapel (1640) – in this area left uphill (either already before the chapel or about 200m later towards Nestlhütte, depending on conditions) – steep in the forest, then briefly somewhat flatter up to the steep ridge – on this to the summit (2214);
Descent to Hafeichtalm along the ascent route or (if conditions allow) further down right into the gully (avalanches!) – forest road (ascent) – at 2nd bend briefly straight – down to the right over an open slope – on the path from Pleißlingalm – motorway chapel – under the A10 – continue on the road always in the valley floor (partly pushing) to the starting point.
Alternative descent from Hafeichtalm: stay on the ascent route on the forest road (no pushing, shorter, faster to the starting point)
Route description is rough, GPS track may locally vary somewhat!
