The Pfitschertal is known for its steep and long high-altitude ski tours, which are usually only feasible in spring. The Wildseespitze is a small exception here. Unobtrusively located on the ridge between Wolfendorn and Kraxentrager, it offers a rewarding and easily accessible ski tour destination. It can be approached from the north side, from Brennepass/Venntal, or from the south side from Pfitsch. Both approaches are relatively easy and uncomplicated, so the snow quality mostly determines the route. The south-side ascent from Pfitsch is recommended in midwinter after snowfall or in spring as a firn tour, as it is exposed to the sun all day starting with the first morning rays. It is certainly the more scenic option and offers a magnificent panorama of the rugged Pfitscher peaks and insight into tour possibilities like Grabspitze or Felbespitze on the opposite valley side. The view from the summit then sweeps from the highest peaks of the Zillertal Alps to the Dolomite peaks Monte Cristallo and the Tofane in the south, the mighty peaks of the Stubai Alps in the west, and finally the Nordkette of the Karwendel in the north above Innsbruck, along with many other countless peaks.

    Author’s recommendation

Plan spring firn tours not too late, as the south side in the lower section quickly thaws out.

    Safety information

Moderate avalanche danger with reasonable route choice. Only the ascent over the slope to the ridge could be tricky.

    Roadbook

From the parking lot, follow the forest road for about one kilometer until the junction of the path marked 5A, usually tracked, leading to Grubbergalm. (Of course, you can also stay on the forest road and continue ascending on it.) The path comfortably ascends the steep forest ridge with many switchbacks and reunites further up with the forest road. Follow this further; the junction of the footpath to Grubbergalm will be left behind on the left. After two more turns, the terrain becomes flatter, and where the road leads to Grubberghütte, the route leaves the road track. It now goes quite straight upwards heading north, and soon the tree line is reached. In a large left curve, a terrain ridge is bypassed, and at about 2400m, a flat, horizontal terrain hollow is reached, which leads northeast to a steeper slope. Above this, ascend to the ridge, and then right (east) over a short ridge rise to a high plateau and finally over the mostly wind-swept summit structure to the highest point.

The descent follows the ascent path, where it is advisable to descend on the forest road through the forest.
