A spring route with rarity value and a long valley descent that makes the heart beat faster.

    Author’s recommendation

Either be at the road before noon to catch the regular bus to the car. The midday break in the regular service means that a bus only passes again in the afternoon.

From the parking lot of the Kaunertal mountain railways, follow the piste to the north face, which is always in sight.

Off the piste, it increasingly goes into steeper terrain until you switch from skis to walking. Depending on snow or ice conditions, you go to the right or left in the upper section. The summit cross is only visible very late and will make you search for it in amazement more than once.

From the summit, then descend onto the Gepatschferner on firn towards the Rauhekopfhütte, which should be approached on the left side of the glacier. Too far right, you enter the crevasse area and may have to climb back up since no way leads through and you are already too deep.

Past the hut, it's best to follow the ascent tracks or stay right to continue under the glacier along the valley floor. Here, depending on snow conditions, the path is then laid out to reach the road.

Hallo Markus. Toll was Du alles unternimmst.
