Very demanding ski route through the Planeil Valley to the Valvelspitz in Upper Vinschgau
Follow the alpine pasture path (normal prohibition sign and barrier) about 6 km up to before the valley narrows. There is a large rock with an arrow and the marking “Portlesspitz” (2121 m on the map). Ascend the slope and then always straight up steeply through the left gully until the terrain becomes flatter at 2450 m. Continue straight through a beautiful hollow to a saddle (2740 m, cairn). Now continue flat into the large basin. Keep going straight and at 2900 m, left before the large lateral moraine, enter the valley on the left; continue towards the final ridge. In the upper basin, turn right at a moderate incline to a small saddle (3160 m). Now you can see the rocky summit formation of the Valvelspitze. You can also go straight north from the lateral moraine and continue through a rear valley under the summit slope (flat and longer). There are now 2 options: a) Slightly left up (somewhat brittle, easy climbing) and onto the southwest ridge and then over this to the summit
