In the off-season, ascending over the pistes of the northern flank is also allowed at will, although the technical piste layout can somewhat spoil the ski touring enjoyment.
In the off-season, you can ascend via the north-facing pistes and ski trails to the Stubneralm and then through the Stubner cirque (and possibly via the eastern ridge) to the summit of the Stubnerkogel. Wonderful panorama into the mountain world of the Gastein valley and the Hohe Tauern!
Descent on the north ridge (near the transmitter piste) and via the steep Bürgerwald piste back to the starting point.

Roadbook
We cross the Angerbach and follow the Angertal descent along the only gently rising Salesen forest road eastwards to the piste widening. Now several ascents southwards along the power poles to the Stubneralm in the cirque basin. Depending on conditions, continue along the pistes to the mountain station. However, it is nicer to directly ascend through the cirque to the summit of the Stubnerkogel. At the steepening upper cirque, you can detour left onto the broad eastern ridge (possibly cornices) and ascend in gentle steps westwards to the visible transmitter. A short way on the transmitter road southwards to the mountain restaurant and then at a sharp angle gently up the piste to the transmitter. Immediately before, turn left to the summit crest of the Stubnerkogel with the impressive crucifix.
Descent along the ascent route. However, nicer along or off the transmitter piste with a longer traverse to the left and then via the Bürgerwald descent back to the Angertal ski center. It is also possible to descend on pistes via the Zittauer notch.
