The aspect of the descent slopes promises early firn.
If you want to extend the route, you skin up in the valley basin at the Wansing hut, ascend southwards to the Kar saddle and over the southwest ridge to Karlhöhe. A gentle descent then follows over the east slopes of Karlhöhe and Hirneck back to St. Peter.

We ascend from St. Peter a moderately steep ridge on the north flank of the Wolfsbach valley up to the first houses. Behind a narrow strip of forest we reach the hamlet of Peitler with a chapel. Here we join the alpine road coming up from St. Peter and follow it for a long time in the bright forest into the valley basin with several alpine huts. Here we turn right and ascend the southwest slope with sparse trees up to the forest boundary. The summit cross can already be seen above the now steeper slope. We avoid the steep slopes below the east ridge by veering left and follow a faint ridge up to the summit of Sternspitze.
Descent via the spacious southeast slope or westwards into the Wandbachkessel and returning along the alpine road back to St. Peter.
