When peace and quiet slowly returns to Obergurgl and Hochgurgl and the ski hype is over, the region once again belongs to ski tourers. While most of them make their way into the Plattenkar in the direction of the Wurmkogel, the route to the Schermerspitze is still mostly alone. This is probably due to the somewhat tricky traverse in the upper third of the tour and the steep final ascent, which make this summit not quite as easy to reach as the Wurmkogel.
Author’s recommendation
The best time is in spring after the lifts have closed.

Safety information
The traverse below the summit slope requires absolutely safe conditions (danger of falling!)When climbing the ridge, pay attention to the overpass (in the ascent sense on the right).
Tips and suggestions
The times given under "Duration" refer to the entire tour including ascent and descent, but without breaks.Roadbook
From the car park at the toll station, follow the remains of the piste in a southerly direction to the church level (a point where all the lifts converge). Here you are also at the entrance to the Plattenkar and Schermeskar, separated by the mighty rock face of the Plattenkogl. Keep left and ascend into the Schermeskar. The route climbs up the wide cirque on its left-hand side with varying steepness. After a steep step, you reach the top station of the lift. Go around it in a right-hand bend and you will find yourself directly below the steep NW face of the Schermerspitze. Now cross under this wall at a suitable height (crampons, danger of slipping!) in a south-westerly direction, heading towards a clear rock spur. Once on this narrow shoulder next to the boulder, head directly along the sharp ridge or slightly to the left of it towards the SE. Depending on the conditions, you can bypass a disturbing rock belt on the left. (If there is not enough snow, you should set up a ski depot here). Otherwise, the final section is somewhat flatter again in a kind of shallow gully to the highest point. A cairn adorns the summit of the Schermerspitze.
The descent takes place directly from the summit, initially in the gully to the rock spire. From there, descend diagonally down to the top station of the lift and then with countless variations in the wide Schermeskar to the church plain. The most beautiful descent is via the steep slope directly below the lift. However, this requires safe conditions. The safest descent is along the ascent track.
At the church level, turn NW (downhill to the right) to get back to the starting point.

From Innsbruck on the A12 Inntal motorway towards Bregenz. Take the Ötztal exit and drive through the entire Ötztal valley to the end. After Sölden the road divides: to the right is Vent, to the left Obergurgl. We follow the signposts to Obergurgl / Hochgurgl / Timmelsjoch. Shortly before Obergurgl, turn left again towards Timmelsjoch. Depending on the snow conditions, ascend either to the toll station or to the hotels in Hochgurgl.Parking
There are plenty of free car parks at both the hotels and the toll station.Coordinates
