    Author’s recommendation

Both Scheiblingtragl and Große Tragl can be done as separate routes but can also be climbed together without much effort.

    Roadbook

The Tauplitzalm is crossed eastwards along the cross-country ski tracks on level ground. A short descent leads down to the Steirersee huts. From here, turn left and ascend northwards over wooded slopes towards Sturzhahn. A long, elongated karst area opens up beneath the cliffs of Sturzhahn and Tragl, called "In den Karen." This area is crossed past the Jungbauernkreuz (allegedly a dangerous sinkhole region!). The Große Tragl is bypassed to the north in a large left curve to the Traglhals, the saddle between Große Tragl and Bartlrücken (detour to the summit from the north!). A wide saddle separates the Große Tragl from the western Scheiblingtragl. A broad summit plateau of the Scheiblingtragl is reached from the north over a gentle ridge.

Descend into the saddle and then right down into the wide hollow of the Haberboden. To the left of the Gasslrücken, we go around the southern cliffs of the Scheiblingtragl to the entrance to the Kitzloch. Now descend the steep gully to the outliers of the Langkar. Westwards, proceed down through the lower Langkar in sparse forest to the Ödernalm. Here, skins are put back on, and along the marked summer path, climb about 400 meters to the Öderntörl. On the eastern slopes of the Schneiderkogel, cross flat above the Großsee back into the ski area near the Hollhaus.
