Scheibenkogel 1997m from Tauernalm

From the southern end of the parking lot, the motorway is crossed via a gated forest road. Two ascents now lead to the Lower Pleißlingalm.

1.) Along the alpine road passing the Tauern chapel, gently rising on the left side of the Pleißlingbach past the Unterbichlhütte and the alpine buildings up to the signpost at 1549m.

2.) Just below the motorway, a pull path leads into the mountain forest on the right side of the Pleißlingbach. Initially somewhat steeper, then slightly rising until above the Lower Pleißlingalm. The stream is crossed at the latest at the signpost at 1549m.

The main valley now heads south towards Taferlnock, the marked summer path to Südwienerhütte goes north into the mountain forest. We choose the initially flat hollow to the east in between. Hiking through sparser larch forest up to the steep valley end. The now very steep gully is ascended in several switchbacks up to the rocks. The gully flattens to a longitudinal hollow; we follow it eastwards into the flat trough between Höllkogel, Scheibenkogel and Hengst. Keeping rather to the left, level into the trough and in a gentle left bend behind the steep slopes of Scheibenkogel, climb in a few switchbacks up to a saddle where we meet the ascent track from Südwienerhütte to Kleiner Pleißlingkeil. We now cross half left into the gentle eastern ridge of Scheibenkogel and reach the summit cross of Scheibenkogel quickly via short terrain steps.

Descent along the ascent or directly over the ideally inclined northern slopes or along the normal ascent through the beautiful northern hollow down to below the former Südwienerhütte. Now either back to the saddle east of Scheibenkogel and then descent along the described ascent or from the former hut almost 1 km flat westwards along the summer path, then just briefly down through the hollow. We cross a steep slope along the summer markings. The somewhat well-recognizable summer path winds down in a few switchbacks through the steep forest to the Lower Pleißlingalm. Over the alpine slopes to the forest road and on it back to the starting point.
