Roadbook
The ski route to Rositzkogel starts at Rifflsee. You can reach it by:
1.) the Rifflsee cable car using a route pass and a short descent to the lake.
2.) via the piste through Taschachalpe (additional 600m ascent and just under 2 hours).
3.) laboriously via the Hirschtal ski route with a short lake descent (additional 550m ascent and just under 2 hours).
We cross the lake (only if the ice is safely frozen) or go around it on the south or north side and enter the flat and wide Riffl valley. After a wide left bend, we overcome a rocky narrow passage with a short steep step, above which the valley opens up again. Just after the steep step, you can leave the valley to the right and ascend via another steep step and a hollow into the wide outlet of the Middle Löcherferner. Here the ascent to the popular K2 branches off to the left. We head in a wide right bend over a rolling valley to the steep slope below the south face of Seekogel. In a few switchbacks, the steep slope (rather on its right flank) is overcome to its flat summit ridge. Now we traverse on a rolling ramp to the left up to the relatively flat Northern Löcherferner (alternatively you can ascend to the Northern Löcherferner on the left of the steep slope in a first steep gully that widens upward). We cross the flat glacier westward to the base of Rositzkogel. The summit is usually reached after a short steep step on the often wind-blown north ridge (with skis or on foot). Under good conditions, you can directly approach the steep east slope and ascend in a few switchbacks to the summit ridge, skillfully crossing a rock band on a snow bridge. Ski depot at the summit ridge. A few meters down into a saddle and then on foot along the short and steep summit ridge to the unadorned summit of Rositzkogel.
Descent to Rifflsee via one of the ascent routes. Now either along the south shore to the piste with descent to Mandarfen or a short ascent to the Rifflsee hut, or along the north shore with a short counter-ascent to the mountain station and descent via the Hirschtal ski route directly down to Mandarfen.
