Selected alternatives for you

The ski tour to the Riegelkopf with an alpine finale is a quiet alternative to the often overcrowded Hochgasser. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are required for the summit rock.

From the Hochgasser route, turn right into the Daberkar before the Grünsee lake and cross the southern flank to the Riegelkopf. Marvellous panoramic mountain.

    Author’s recommendation

The tour can be extended to the Amertalerhöhe or the Sillingkopf.

    Tips and suggestions

    The Matreier Tauernhaus: http://www.matreier-tauernhaus.com/

is an ideal base for a variety of ski tours on the Felbertauern.

    Roadbook

From the Matreier Tauernhaus, a steep alpine path leads over 100 metres uphill to the first open areas on the left above the tunnel entrance. You get here from the toll station on the goods road and at its right-hand bend straight on along the narrower alpine path. Now climb north-eastwards over moderately steep alpine meadows (Frögbichl). A steep step is overcome a good 100 metres uphill towards Daberkögele. Here we branch off to the right from the normal route on the Hochgasser and cross the steep southern slopes of the Daberkögele without gaining any significant height. A short, steep hollow brings us to the plain to the west of the Dabersee lake. Here we turn left and ascend northwards in steps on the eastern flank on a kind of terrace above the Dabersee. At a suitable point, we overcome the flank via a steeper, trough-shaped slope and reach the broad, blocky south ridge. The ridge is fairly flat until you reach the summit. Depending on the snow conditions, you can ski between the boulders on the steep summit rock, otherwise climb northwards on foot to the undecorated summit. The last few metres are conquered in somewhat exposed block climbing.

Descent and descent along the ascent.

In stable conditions, you can also ski down the very steep western flank along the Riegelurm to Grünsee.

Man kann sich immer einen Bergführer nehmen und es ist absolut zu raten wenn man nicht so viel Erfahrung vor allem mit der Lawinenlage hat. Du kannst beim Matreier Bergführerverein anrufen und was ausmachen.
