Anyone driving from the Linth plain to Glarus will inevitably notice the Rautispitz. The east face of Rautispitz drops more than 1800 meters down to the Linth valley. From the west side, the mountain presents itself more gently. The wide hollow of Rautialp invites to wide turns. The only downside of the route is the long approach over forest roads through the Obersee valley (L+). The return route can be shortened by a descent over Grapplialp. However, the steep section at Tritt requires good ski technique and safe avalanche conditions (WS+).
