Rannberg is a relaxed ski tour, more precisely a ski hike, which offers little for skiing downhill but provides quite nice views in the summit area. A rest at the summit in the afternoon sun with a deep view to Hintersee is a fine thing.
The route is almost avalanche-safe but completely unrewarding in deep fresh snow due to the predominantly very flat terrain.
Author’s recommendation
A ridge crossing to Loibersbacher Höhe is easily possible. However, you can also descend to Mittereggalm and then add Loibersbacher Höhe or Faistenauer Schafberg.
Refreshments at Mittereggalm, if it is open.

The parking lots in the Faistenau municipality area (including Tiefbrunnau) are subject to fees. Information at: https://www.faistenau.gv.at/Aktuelles_zur_ParkraumbewirtschaftungRoadbook
From the parking lot on the wide, mostly groomed track by a snowcat towards Mittereggalm, you can shortcut the first bend just above the parking lot via a narrow dragging path. Continue to the junction with the sign "Pillsteinhüttn zur Ehrentraud." A few meters downhill, over the stream and right to a clearing in the tall forest. Across this and the following short slope to Mittereggalm, whose hut roof is already visible from the clearing. You can also stay on the track and go right above the forest towards the alpine pasture. West past the alpine pasture and through a hollow up to another hut standing on the forest edge to the right. Follow the usually recognizable summer path through the dense tall forest, first gently ascending, then flat, and lastly slightly descending, out to the open areas of Stegeralm. Again almost flat northwest, then gently ascending through the sparse tall forest to the ridge crest, and over it to the highest point.
The descent takes place on the ascent route.
Public transport
The starting point at the Döllerer Wald parking lot is not accessible by public transport.
