The route is very promising soon after snowfall, as it offers, if we are among the first, excellent skiing on freshly fallen snow. The idyllic winter landscape is given a special touch by the snow-covered spruce trees.
From the parking lot at the turnoff to Mangart, we ascend along the road, which at the bridge we leave and continue left over an embankment (snow-covered in good conditions) towards Mangart Plain. Past the plain, we follow the summer path past a barrier to the forest. If we go on this path after snowfall, a true winter fairy tale awaits us.
When in the forest on your left you see a wider strip of undisturbed slope, turn onto it. Towards the goal, we ascend through very varied terrain. If we are not lucky enough that someone else has already made a ski track, we choose the ascent path by our own judgment. At the first larger level area, on the left we see the saddle, which can also be reached from the Stože Saddle. We climb onto it and prepare for the descent. Before that, we can enjoy views to the highest mountains of neighboring countries to the north and the mighty Loško Wall to the south.
We ski down in the direction of the approach to the summer path to Mangart. Only a fairly gentle descent to Mangart Plain and further to the starting point awaits us.
Author’s recommendation
Immediately after snowfall, the ascent over Stože, the valley just above Mangart Plain, is safer. We ski down over Dren.

After the ski route, you can also ascend the neighboring Beli Potok valley and ski it down.
Roadbook
From the parking lot by the bridge over Predelica, we continue along the road to the second bridge on Mangart Road. Here we turn left and continue on the summer path past Mangart Plain through the forest to the first undisturbed valley on the left. We climb to the saddle.

There is no public transport in winter.

We leave the Bovec-Predel regional road immediately after the bridge over Predelica (turn right).
From the direction of Kranjska Gora or Tarvisio, we drive over the Predel pass and turn left before the bridge over Predelica.
