The route starts at the end of the paved road at the huge parking lot at the entrance to the Hohe Tauern National Park. In winter, the sun only briefly reaches the valley floor here; accordingly, it is not always very warm.
Only briefly across a flat field, then the first climb with good altitude gain leads to a forest road, which is followed (only one shortcut is possible) to the Kreealm, operated in summer. Along the summer path, you continue at first through thinning forest.
If conditions are right, ascend on the sunny side on the left valley side when facing uphill up to the already visible Murtörl, before ascending in a right curve to the summit cross. (Ascent variant see "Safety instructions"!). – Ascent approx. 7 km.
The descent to the Murtörl follows the ascent track. Then, due to usually better snow conditions, it is recommended to switch over a flat terrain westwards to the Schöderhorn route. To avoid creek ravines, it is advisable to conserve altitude. From the Kreealm mainly a road descent follows.

Safety information
In critical conditions, an alternative ascent shortly after the Kreealm on the descent route (long in the shade) towards Schöderhorn up to approx. 2130 m is possible, then across the flatter ground towards ENE to the Murtörl.Tips and suggestions
The names of the peaks vary somewhat: the Schöderhorn (2475) is also referred to as Großer Mureck in some maps and literature; the actual Mureck described here (2402) is also called Kleiner Mureck.
The route description is deliberately kept rough; it is assumed that a suitable map is available and route planning is done. The GPS track can locally deviate somewhat from the described route.

Roadbook
Route description rough, GPS track may locally deviate somewhat!
From the starting point (parking lot Hüttschlag – Stockham/Talwirt; approx. 1020 m) head southeast crossing a field – bridge – left uphill to forest road – left (WW Kreealm/Murtörl) – Kreealm (1482) – right uphill (summer path Murtörl, markings) – after crossing the stream change valley side – with varying steepness heading southeast to the prominently visible Murtörl (2260) – from here roughly a right curve southward to the summit (2402). (Ascent variant see "Safety instructions"!)
Descent to the Murtörl – around the Mureck ridge and continuing WSW to the Schöderhorn route – in a broad, always rideable right curve further - northwards maintaining altitude above the creek ravines, then down to the Kreealm – forest road – along the ascent route back to the parking lot
