Monte Cocco is one of the most popular ski touring destinations in the Eastern Carnic Alps. Due to the low avalanche danger, this tour is also done after heavy snowfall.
Author’s recommendation
On the descent, a stop at Agriturismo Rosic is highly recommended. Here you experience lived Alpine-Adriatic culture.

Along the ascent route there is consistently low avalanche danger. Only in the ridge area should you watch out for wind slabs; right on the ridge, however, there is usually no danger.Roadbook
First, the ski tourer follows the flat open slopes northwest into a gully up to an altitude of about 1300m. Here you cross the brook and then climb briefly steeply on an Almweg. You quickly reach open areas again, over which you go uphill to the west. After another short forest section at 1500m, the further ascent leads again over beautiful Alpine pastures into a saddle (1814m). To the left (south) you reach Monte Cocco (1941m) via a ridge, to the right (north) the Schönwipfel (1911m).
