Mitterkogel 2122m from Gosausee
The elongated northern hollows at the foot of the Gosaukamm cliffs high above the Gosausee offer here a mostly quiet ski route in a magnificent rock setting.
Along the Steigl path, finely stepped hollows stretch under the eastern walls of the Gosaukamm up to the southern cliffs near the Bischofsmütze. Fantastic summit panorama!
Author’s recommendation
The eastern cirques of the Gosaukamm and their steep couloirs, which are entirely left untouched on the right on this route, are sought-after ski tours for couloir enthusiasts.

Roadbook
From the parking lot, it is just a few steps to the northern shore of the Gosausee. Now turn right on the wide hiking trail to Seeklausalm and right again over open slopes and short forest sections up to the slopes between the steep rocks of the Gosaukamm and the Vorderen Scharwand, which drops down to the Gosausee. At the Scharwandhütte, we cross the flat extensions of the Weitkar and enter a distinct hollow system. Passing the mountaineers' memorial chapel, we ascend southwards in several fine stages between the surrounding rocks (Gabelkogel and Kopfwand to the left as well as Großwand, Däumling, Armkarwand, and Bischofsmütze to the right). The last deeper hollow widens into the Eisgrub'n, the cirque below the Steiglkogel. We leave the Steigl path to the left and remain briefly in the cirque between Mitterkogel to the left and Steiglkogel to the right. At a suitable spot, we ascend in a left curve the somewhat steeper slope to the north ridge and follow it easily southwards to the already near summit of the Mitterkogel.
