A classic is the mid-winter and spring route on the Magerstein.
The starting point is the Jausenstation Säge (1580 m); 2 km behind Rein in the Bachertal. Over the bridge and a meadow straight up, where a forest road begins on the right. Up this road for about 0:30 hours until it ends at a crossroads (1800 m). Follow marker no. 8 into the forest and very steeply up to about 2100 m. Now flat to the left into open terrain. At 2121 m the path crosses a bridge left over the stream to the Hochgall Hut (former Kasseler Hut, 2276 m, approx. 2:00 hours from the parking lot). Now the short steep slope directly above the hut diagonally left up to a wayside shrine. Through the valley left of the Tristennöckl uphill to a plateau. Now left over the ridge and over short terrain steps, past a rain gauge, to the left edge of the glacier. Always straight ahead in a southerly, later southwesterly direction under the east ridge of the Magerstein. Under some rock spires, climb diagonally right up to the summit slope.
