    Safety information

The ascent from the ski depot to the summit of the Kleiner Ankogel is largely easy but requires surefootedness, as there are sections with risk of falling. Crampons offer more disadvantages than advantages in most cases here.

    Roadbook

To the Hannoverhaus take the Ankogelbahn II up to the mountain station at 2637 m. The Hannoverhaus lies just below and directly on the piste.

From the Hannoverhaus first traverse about 900 m eastwards without gaining altitude to the rock protrusion of the Grauleit'nwand. This crossing can be done with skins on and as level as possible (altitude 2600 m) or by skiing down crossing to about 2500 m and putting skins back on just below the Grauleit'nwand.

Parallel to the Grauleit'nwand, continue ascending towards Lassacher Kees (no crevasse danger) to the Radeggscharte (2874 m). From the col, only a short section remains to the ski depot at the foot of the ridge to the Kleiner Ankogel. The further ascent to the Kleiner Ankogel (about 200 m height difference) along the ridge follows the marked summer path.

Descent and ski down as ascent and back to the Hannoverhaus, or from the Radeggscharte ski down into the Anlauftal (very steep; only advisable in good conditions) and to Böckstein (1100 m). From there by train through the Tauern car shuttle back to Mallnitz and by bus to the valley station of the Ankogelbahn.

    Equipment

Complete ski touring equipment including emergency equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe). Roped equipment as used on ski mountaineering tours is not necessary. For inexperienced people, a rope safety on the ridge to the summit can be helpful (partner protection using a sling attached to rock blocks).
