High winter tour of the Kassianspitze between the Sarntal and Eisacktal valleys.
The starting point is the Durnholz car park (1513 m); according to the prohibition sign, access to the lake and further is only permitted before 7 a.m. (as of May 2008). Take the road up to the beginning of Durnholz Lake. Now into the Großalmtal either along the right bank or left on the road to the Fischerwirt and continue on the path to the right. Enter the valley on the path to the right of the stream. Continue through loose forest and across clearings on a moderate incline until you reach open terrain and a valley bar in front of you. To the left of this, through a steep hollow into flatter terrain below the Fortschellscharte. Now flat to the right and under rocks to the right through depressions and over ridges to a saddle to the right of the Kassianspitze. Over this saddle and, behind it increasingly steeper, over a short slope on the left to the summit. Descent: as ascent
