As far as the risk of slipping is concerned, the very steep slope to the Oberisserscharte is a key section. The ridge to the summit requires surefootedness and a head for heights: beware: the steel cable may be partially snowed in in winter.Roadbook
From the Franz Senn Hut, immediately behind the material cable car, we turn left (south-east). First flat through the valley floor, then briefly over a steep step and again in flatter terrain towards the Gschwezgrat. At approx. 2400 m we turn right into the Stiergschwez. The ideal ascent now leads along the flat ridge below the elongated Sommerwand to the Sommerwandferner. The ascent over the glacier, which is divided by a rock island, takes place in the right-hand (western) section. We reach the Kräulscharte (3069 m) in just under an hour via the wide, moderately steep terrain. We set up the ski depot just below the saddle. Continue for about 20 minutes along the partly secured and exposed ridge to the summit (UIAA 2). Descend in the area of the ascent track.
Descent variant via the Kuhgschwez to the Oberissalm:
We do not return to the Franz-Senn-Hütte, but only up to an altitude of approx. 2400 metres. From here we climb up the very steep slope to the Oberisserscharte (2465 m) in the Gschwezgrat ridge - finally carrying our skis through a very steep gully. From the Oberisserscharte, you can either descend straight to the Oberissalm or ascend along the Gschwezgrat for another 30 minutes and then traverse south-eastwards under the rock faces of the Uelasgratspitze to an altitude of approx. 2620 metres. You will be rewarded with marvellous skiing terrain which, due to its north-facing orientation, offers a long powdery descent to the Oberissalm. From the Oberissalm on the prepared road to Seduck.
