Without valley hike to the local mountain of the Sennhütte

The Franz-Senn-Hütte in the northern Stubai Alps is often referred to as a model Alpine club hut when talking about exemplary, mountaineering-friendly management. This reputation was established by the legendary hut warden and mountain guide Horst Fankhauser. Not only was he quick both in mountaineering and gastronomy, but he also knew how to ideally combine the whole thing during his over 30 years of running the hut. Thus, the Franz-Senn-Hütte became one of the most modern hut operations, and in the evening, the ski tourer got not only an excellent meal but also the best tour tips firsthand. Meanwhile, the tradition is continued in this spirit by his son Thomas with his wife Beate. Even in the greatest hustle and bustle, they give the ski tourer the feeling of being welcome, and you are always well informed about the latest conditions.
The classic "getting-in tour" of the large tour area leads immediately south without the otherwise usual valley hike through beautiful, moderately steep cirques up to the Kräulscharte. The remnants of the Sommerwandferner in this area show only a few crevasses and are usually crossed without a rope. Anyone who wants to reach the summit of the Inner Sommerwand should have crampons with them on icy ridges (and this is more the rule than the exception). Otherwise, you stop at the col and despite the popularity of the tour, in the protected northwest cirque, you almost always have the opportunity to paint your own arcs in the powder snow. Even more worthwhile for skiers is the "Upper Kräulscharte," a small ridge step on the northwest ridge of the Middle Kräulspitze. However, the demanding summit ascent is hardly carried out from there.

Ascent to the hut Along a snow weasel trail about one hour upstream to the Oberisshütte (1742 m). Then a bit to the right to the steep flank that closes the valley on the right. Along a wide path (quickly snow-free, often on foot here) keeping left through the rocky slope upwards to the valley floor and along the partly narrow path to the Alpeiner Alm. Now flatter again continuing to the right of the stream, finally over a bridge to the already visible Franz-Senn-Hütte. For comfortable ski tourers there are various service options from the hut team such as snowmobile towing service up to Oberiss and backpack transport from there to the hut.Ascent to the summit From the hut, it first goes flat to the south and through a beautiful hollow up to below the Oberisser Scharte. Here the valley bends to the right and we reach a flat basin closed to the west by a steeper slope. Up this slope initially to the right, then more to the left up to the next flat area below the wide Sommerwandferner.
