From the Schönaubrücke (just before the Gmündner Hut), follow the forest road up to about 1700m. Here, ascend the approximately 30 to 35 degree steep mostly treeless slope up to Ochsenboden at 1950m. Cross the stream and continue towards the Villacher Hut. About 200m before the hut, keep slightly to the left and head towards the notch south of the Schwarzen Schneid. Point 2756m. Over the Hochalmkees glacier towards a distinctive rocky peak rising from the glacier. It is usually bypassed on the south side. At 3120m reach the ridge. Slightly north of the ridge ski to the winter summit at 3235m. Ski depot. A short, at times somewhat challenging summit ridge. Crampons are advantageous.
