Wonderful ski tour in the Johnsbachtal. Very varied, beautiful ascent over forest roads, sparse forest, steep cirque and slopes, further over a flat ridge to the summit.

First you follow the forest road through the famous and worth seeing Ebner or Devil's Gorge. Behind the gorge, the route leads alternately through the forest and in sections again on forest roads.

At the Pfarralm, we turn left and continue into the steep cirque. Now northwards over a steep step into the cirque between Stadelfeld and Glaneggturm to the Glaneggluke and straight on through the cirque to the flat ridge. Follow this to the highest point.

    Author’s recommendation

The very steep (approx. 40°) direct summit descent into the Gsuchkar is only possible in the best conditions!

At the starting points of the NP ski tours there are devices to check the function of your avalanche transceiver!

There are also information boards and flyers at the starting points with the exact route description!

At the beginning of the forest road and in sections in the area of the gorge, you should be prepared for rough spots that can cause unnecessary scratches on the skiing surface during the subsequent descent. First you follow the forest road through the famous and worth seeing Ebner or Devil's Gorge. Behind the gorge, the route leads over the toboggan run , soon we turn left and it goes alternately through the forest and in sections again on forest roads.

Cross the Schafhüttelgraben to the Pfarralm and continue into the steep cirque. Now turn left northwards over a steep step into the cirque between Stadelfeld and Glaneggturm into the Glaneggluke and straight on through the cirque to the flat ridge. Follow this to the highest point.

Certain passages are steep and require the use of hairpin bends. It is imperative that you observe the avalanche warning levels!

    Safety in alpine terrain

The usual dangers of the mountains - falling rocks, weather-related falls, danger of falling - are exacerbated in winter above all by the danger of avalanches. This poses a challenge for beginners and professionals alike. Being able to assess the avalanche situation requires thorough preparation and years of experience. Therefore, please observe the principles of safe touring. Indispensable are in any case:

Good tour planning (route, avalanche situation report, weather report, weather stations).

    Complete equipment

    Stay on the route

    Minimising the risk

Respect for the rules of nature conservation and thus protect the sensitive nature in the Gesäuse National Park!

Ski touring and avalanche equipment, as well as a ski touring backpack with appropriate contents (water bottle, hiking map, snack, etc.). You should also be well prepared for a change in the weather.
