The ascent to the Eisentalhöhe via the Nockalmstraße is a comfortable ski hike up to the Zechneralm, which at about 5.5 km stretches somewhat. Only after the alpine pasture do you climb a beautiful slope, partly wooded with individual trees in the middle section, to the broad summit of the Eisentalhöhe. With good powder snow, a beautiful descent back into the valley floor and ascent via the southeast ridge to the Grünleitennock. From there via the ski route to Innerkrems.

    Author’s recommendation

The return route from the Zechneralm via the Nockalmstraße offers no skiing enjoyment. Therefore, the ascent of the Grünleitennock should be included in the tour plan from the start.

    Safety information

Possible avalanche danger should be noted on the northwest-facing slope of the Eisentalhöhe as well as on the steeper southeast ridge of the Grünleitennock.

    Roadbook

From the toll station on the Nockalmstraße about 5.5 km to the Zechneralm. The individual hairpin bends (= Reidn) below the Nockalmhof can partly be shortened. Up to this point, the road is prepared in winter as a toboggan run or winter hiking trail, often depending on snow conditions even up to the Pfandlhütte (Reidn 11 Teufelskralln) or further to the Zechneralm. Between the Pfandlhütte and the Zechneralm, you lose some altitude on the road before gently ascending again to the Zechneralm. Here you finally leave the Nockalmstraße. Behind the alpine huts, go about 200 m further to cross a small ditch and then sharply ascend to the right over initially steeper and almost treeless slopes. From an altitude of 2000 m, these become flatter, and you head freely toward the highest point of the Eisentalhöhe.

Descent back into the valley of the Friesenhalsbach stream. Skin up and head northeast in the flat valley. Pass a livestock shelter to the fork of the valley. Depending on snow conditions, you can ascend directly to the Grünleitennock via the steep southeast ridge on the left. A somewhat gentler ascent takes a large bend over to the right in the valley a bit further, then first left uphill and above the side valley descending from the Grünleitenscharte into the Grünleitenscharte. From there, head west toward the summit.

    DESCENT:

From the summit, slide down north toward the mountain station of the Grünleitennock cable car and descend via the mostly no longer groomed ski slope to the Jauchza Hut. You can also skip the mountain station and already descend to the left in a hollow before, but then you have to traverse right in time to reach the slope (see GPS track). A few meters below the Jauchza Hut, you meet the signed ski touring route to Innerkrems/toll station. From there, continue the descent past the Penker Hut/Kesselgrubenalm to Innerkrems. Some hairpins can be shortened.

With good snow conditions, a direct descent from the summit over the partly steep northwest slopes to the Penker Hut is possible. Here you stay always left of a distinctive ditch. Very beautiful when there is powder snow.
