The ascent above the Naturfreundehaus new building is identical to that to the Sonnblick and accordingly well frequented. Beyond this point, you can usually enjoy solitude and mostly break trail yourself. The summit slope is steep and craggy. The summit of the Alteck is only reachable with skis on in abundant snow conditions and safe circumstances.

Roadbook
Either on the road (on foot?) or to the left parallel to it in the forest up to the Naturfreundehaus Kolm-Saigurn. Behind it to the left begins the classic ascent to the Sonnblick. A usually ice-hard wooded steep section next to the Barbarafall is often laboriously overcome in the early morning. An inclined gully then leads to a flattening. In a right-hand bend, a small ridge is bypassed, leading to the steep hollows that ascend to the Knappenhaus. Here the terrain flattens out. A wide valley is crossed southwards without significant elevation gain. To the right over a short steep section onto a ramp in front of the glacier lake. Here you branch off from the main Sonnblick route to the left. Southeastwards, first over broad medium-steep slopes and then along a rocky ridge or to the left of it along the summer path towards the Niedere Scharte ascent. Shortly before the notch, you can turn right into the broad northeast slope of the Alteck. With a gentle incline, you approach the increasingly steep northeast slope. The rocky flank can be climbed in wide switchbacks almost up to the west ridge in good snow conditions; otherwise, the ski depot is set up accordingly beforehand and the flank is crossed on foot. Slightly to the right of the already visible summit cross, a small notch in the ridge is approached on foot. A short descent takes you into the west flank. Now either straight up between rock blocks to the ridge and over simple blocks southwards to the summit cross, or ascending slightly, cross beneath the cross in the west flank and reach the summit in a few steps on the simple south ridge.
Descent and downhill along the ascent route. As a variant, a bit of ascent from the Niedere Scharte to the Fraganterscharte can be done and then descended via the Wintergasse, a long northwest gully.
