Two rather little-known passes are climbed on this loop starting at the north shore of Lake Garda: Passo del Ballino and Passo Duron at exactly 1000 meters. Compared to their more prominent brothers in the Dolomites, they seem less spectacular, but this route shows a pleasant, varied, and completely different landscape than the usual one from the lake.
From Arco (supermarket Poli parking lot), head towards Riva and turn right at the third roundabout ➊ onto the SP 37 towards Madonna di Campiglio / Valle di Ledro. At the next roundabout, go straight towards Valle di Ledro ➋. Follow the direction through further roundabouts, then Lago di Tenno is signposted for the first time ➌. After Lake Tenno ➍, which is circled on the left shore, head up to Passo del Ballino ➎ and then rapidly downhill. Turn left ➏ through the village of Fiavé ➐. In the village, turn left and stay on SP 222 towards Passo Duron. After the Passo Duron at exactly 1000 m ➑, roll downhill to Zuclo. Here turn right downhill towards Trento ➒ and then ➓ shortly right onto SS 237. At the next roundabout ⓫ turn left towards Preore/Ragoli. Continue on SP 34 to Stenico, through Sclemo and then at Tavodo ⓬ turn left. At the junction with SS 421, turn right downhill ⓭, signposted Ponte Arche. At the junction ⓮ with SS 237 turn left "Sarche 9 / Trento 28 / Riva del Garda 30".
