Via Romea: Bagno di Romagna - Corezzo

Today's stage takes us over the Passo Serra to Corezzo, and at the pass height we cross from the Emilia-Romagna region into the Tuscany region. This stage has about the same amount of ascent elevation as the previous day's stage, but today it is spread over a significantly shorter distance, so we are not expecting a fast hike uphill, but a steady, crisp ascent that begins shortly after Bagno di Romagna. After Passo Serra, we will tend to keep right, while the alternative path to La Verna leads more to the left.

The "Via Romea" bears different names, such as "Via Romea Stadensis" or "Via Romea Germanica". This pilgrimage route leads from northern Germany southwards via the Alpine pass "Brenner" to Rome. The path goes back to Abbot Albert of Stade, who set out in 1236 for Rome to obtain permission from Pope Gregory IX for stricter church discipline.
