The Via Lemovicensis is one of the classic pilgrimage routes in France and runs as part of the "First Cultural Route of Europe" through central and southwest France.
The Via Lemovicensis starts in Vézelay and is also called "Voie de Vézelay." The pilgrimage route runs on quiet paths from Burgundy through Auvergne and Gascony to the Pyrenees. The gradually descending low mountain landscape turns into flat terrain until finally reaching the mountain range between France and Spain. On the southern part of the route, you can enjoy a Mediterranean flair. The Via Lemovicensis is considered the quietest of the French Camino routes. The path is not crowded and does not run through more touristically developed areas. This allows the traveler to focus completely on themselves and on hiking or pilgrimage. Along the way, the hiker crosses the rivers Loire, Dordogne, and Garonne. Although the pilgrimage route was only developed in the early 1990s, the infrastructure is sufficient and the signage is good.
