Pilgerwege Frankreich
Finally, we have a stage ahead of us where we can progress quickly with practically no climbs and endless, straight sections. It is also good to move quickly because there are almost no agglomerations in the agricultural areas we are crossing today.
The terrain becomes increasingly flat, and water can hardly drain away, so there are many dikes and canals. Even the stream "Le Carlavon," which accompanies us today as well, mostly shows us nearly stagnant water. This area with flat, sandy soils and sufficient water, together with the suitable climate, is ideal for asparagus cultivation; accordingly, Cavaillon asparagus is well known.
The stream "Le Carlavon" changes its name shortly before Cavaillon and is then called "Le Coulon." It flows along the edge of the town of Cavaillon and then into the Durance, on which Cavaillon lies. The Durance itself shortly thereafter flows into the Rhône at Avignon. We remain true to tradition and end our route today at the town hall of the stage location.
