We hiked the above-mentioned tour at the end of July. We started at the Madrisabahn parking lot (free parking) over the Rätschenjoch to the first accommodation in Sunnistafel. A long day tour (approx. 08:00–18:30) but doable. After the Rätschenjoch, we came across the first snowfield, which was easy to cross. The accommodation in Sunnistafel (mountain restaurant Edelweis) was very nice and completely sufficient. We started around 08:00 in the morning and arrived at the huts between 16:00 and 18:30. However, we walked leisurely and celebrated a morning worship and a mass during the tour every day.
On the second day, we started in Sunnistafel and walked to the Carschinahütte. Unfortunately, we could not climb the Sulzfluh because the weather (thunderstorm) surprised us. Nice day tour. The Carschinahütte is a very nice hut with lots of friendly people.
On the third day, we started from the Carschinahütte and hiked to the Schesaplanahütte. Very beautiful high-altitude trail. We needed 7 hours although the path is signposted with 4.5 hours. At the hut, the way was indicated as 6.5 hours. Schesaplanahütte is a large hut with shower facilities for a fee.
On the fourth day, we climbed the summit of the Schesaplana. The ascent is very steep and has the character of a via ferrata. In some places, one could certainly have worn a helmet or harness for safety. We descended towards the Totalphütte. The path there is partly poorly signposted (Austria, in Switzerland very well signposted), so unfortunately, we ended up on a via ferrata and had to turn back. Once on the right path, the tour led us down through several snowfields and over the Gaffeljoch back to the Prättigauer Höhenweg towards Schesaplanahütte. Great day tour with superb views of Austria and Switzerland.
On the 5th day, we descended the Prättigauer Höhenweg to Seewis. Easy descent on a wide road. Exactly right for the last day. Then took the bus to the train station and traveled via Grüsch to Klosters.
Conclusion: A very beautiful tour through a very beautiful and impressive landscape with nice huts and good food. Personally, I would hike this tour this way again. I would not hike this tour with children under 12/13 years old, as there are some rather demanding stages.
