The "Schola Dei" route is a 40 km long pilgrimage path, whose route largely follows a pilgrimage way.
The namesake of the pilgrimage path is the starting point - the former Cistercian monastery (1228-1529) "School of God" near Ihlow. Along the quiet paths, there are about 16 stations to discover, as well as picturesque churches and historic places. In Marienhafe, in the Middle Ages the center of Brookmerland, stands the St. Mary Church. It was built in the mid-13th century and was the largest three-aisled parish church in East Frisia. In the town of Norden, you can admire the Ludgeri Church - its oldest building part dates from the 13th century. It is today the largest medieval church in East Frisia and contains the world-famous Schnitger organ. Benedictine and Dominican monasteries were places of Christian faith here.

From Ihlow, the route goes along quiet paths – past churches and historic places – to Marienhafe, in the Middle Ages the center of Brookmerland, a district of the Frisian Freedom. In the middle of the town stands the St. Mary Church with its imposing "Störtebeker Tower", in which the pirate Störtebeker is said to have found shelter with his loyal followers. The church was built in the mid-13th century and was the largest three-aisled parish church in East Frisia in the Middle Ages.
In the year 1255, Norden was first mentioned in a document. From this time also comes the oldest building part of the Ludgeri Church. The place of worship with the world-famous Arp Schnitger organ is today the largest medieval church in East Frisia. Here the pilgrimage path ends, after it has touched remains and monuments of Benedictine and Dominican monasteries on the territory of Norden.
