Tips and suggestions
http://www.jakobuswege-schwarzwald-alb.deRoadbook
You walk along the street “Am Wettbach” through Balingen-Endingen and leave the Beuron Jakobus Route at the end of the village. Turn right into the street “Im Zeil”, go left past the cemetery, and again follow the left along the bike path through the Wettbach valley towards Roßwangen. Now you pass steeply under the large road bridge, continue on the macadam path to the district road, then follow the street to the left into Roßwangen. In the village, follow Weilstetter Street to the left and turn immediately right into “Oberer Brühl” street. At the roadside cross at the end of the village keep right and walk straight through the forest. You reach the new housing estate of Dotternhausen and follow Alleenstraße to the castle, turn left into Schloßstraße, right into St.-Anna-Weg, and immediately left up the steps to the Parish Church of St. Martin.
Below the church turn right and slightly uphill straight ahead continuing through Haupt- and Schömberger Street, past the cemetery chapel, to the end of the village. Go under the cable car of the Dotternhausen cement works and straight on along the bike path beside the side street to Schömberg. In front of you lies the Pilgrimage Church on the Palmbühl.
The Jakobus Route leads past the church and down the station of the cross into the Schlichem valley. At the end of the station, turn left, follow the street in a right bend, cross the bridge, uphill to Schömberg and straight ahead through Alte Hauptstraße, past the market square and further to Schweizer Straße.

2nd stage Schömberg - Rottweil (15 or 21 kilometers):
From Schömberg several route variants lead on: You can leave the town directly towards Schömberg-Schörzingen. However, it is advisable initially to take a circular route (8 kilometers) to the Church of St. Jakobus in Zimmern unter der Burg. From Zimmern, there is also the option of continuing to Gößlingen to the Kirchberg Pilgrimage Route.
Short route variant: Go left or south along Schweizerstraße, at the roundabout after 800 m continue straight towards Wellendingen, after another 800 m pass under the road bridge and then turn immediately left into the side street to Schörzingen. Here the alternative route through Zimmern unter der Burg joins the pilgrimage route again.
Route variant via Zimmern unter der Burg: Walk about 30 m left or south along Schweizerstraße, then turn right towards Dautmergen. At the end of the village the pilgrimage path leads half right on a macadam path to the industrial area and over a meadow path left to Dautmerger Straße. Then follow this to the right to the concentration camp cemetery.
The path runs about 200 m along the country road, then turn left towards Zimmern unter der Burg. At a sharp left curve at the edge of the forest go straight, follow the meadow path that turns into a firm road, then 700 m to the junction. There you meet a macadam path, which leads downhill to the left. At the end of the forest there is a beautiful view of Zimmern unter der Burg. The winding path goes downhill past a roadside cross. In the village keep right, then immediately left again and climb the steps to the Church of St. Jakobus.
Back to the main road; you can now either follow the alternative Palmbühl Pilgrimage Route to Schörzingen or hike to Gößlingen to the Kirchberg Pilgrimage Route.
Zimmern unter der Burg – Gößlingen: You cross the stream, walk out of the village along the street “In der Gass” and at a single barn follow the path veering left steeply uphill to the plateau. Here keep left, cross the district road, follow the macadam path towards Gößlingen and hike above the village. Again, shortly after a roadside cross keep left and immediately meet the Kirchberg Pilgrimage Route which leads down to Gößlingen.
Alternative Palmbühl Pilgrimage Route: In Zimmern, follow the main street right towards Schömberg. First cross the bridge, then after 100 m turn right uphill into Rötenbergstraße. At the top of the plateau follow the macadam path southeast, then continue on a gravel path straight through the forest (do not take the bike path left to Schömberg). Now cross the B27, turn left into a field path, before the underpass turn right, then straight on a meadow path to the Schömberg-Wellendingen country road. Cross the street, follow it a few meters to the left and turn right into the side road to Schömberg-Schörzingen, end of alternative route.
Back to the pilgrimage route. It turns right into Hochbergstraße, left to Neuhausstraße, then along the bike and foot path right along the district road to the Neuhaus inn. From the car park follow the macadam path past a gnarled oak, across open fields to the right on a gravel path, then left downhill to Eckerwald. In the forest, downhill in a left curve; after 350 m you reach the Eckerwald memorial site.
At the end of the memorial a narrow footpath leads right over a footbridge to a forest track. Follow this left until the connecting road to Feckenhausen. Cross this and walk about 150 m right along the street, then half left on a forest path to a weekend settlement. At the end of the settlement you see Rottweil-Feckenhausen in front of you, a macadam path leads down to the district road. The meadow path left of the road leads into the town.
In Feckenhausen along Habsburger Street, then right into Schwabenstraße, past a crossroad, continue along the street, at the edge of town, at the end of the village continue straight on a macadam path, past a barbecue area. From here the pilgrimage route runs roughly parallel to the Rottweil nature trail. In the forest leave past a small chapel on the left, at the next fork turn left again, continue to Dissenhorn chapel. Pass this on the right on a beautiful meadow path downhill to Dissenhorn. Here you have a magnificent view of Rottweil and the Prim valley. Over the station of the cross to Rottweil-Göllsdorf. Continue downhill on Dissenhornweg, cross Schroffenstraße and the steps down to Feckenhauser Straße; right along Württemberger Straße to the Church of St. Franz Xaver.
Right into Böhringer Steige and immediately left over Mühlwiesenstraße to the edge of town. Along the Prim and Neckar rivers, past Schwarzer Fels, to Rottweil. In front of you the Rottweil cityscape with the towering tower of the chapel church. You pass the power station, left at Vögelinsmühle, then right on the footpath towards the town, left over the Neckar bridge and through the railway underpass, continue right on the footpath. Keep right again and along the bottom of the rocks. The path meets a modern stations of the cross, which you follow right, up to the viaduct and into the town.
