The Miners' Path is a themed path dedicated to alum, designed and managed by the APS Il Cammino dell'Allume and traced together with CAI (Italian Alpine Club). It is thought of as a "vein" rising among woods and mining memories: 35 km total divided into three loops (blue, purple, yellow), interconnected, marked by white-red CAI signs and colored indicators at junctions. You can walk only one or combine them in a weekend.

The Blue Trail (Beech Loop) is the easiest and “welcome” loop: a small loop around the town, ideal for a not too challenging walk and mostly shaded in the warm season. The route crosses the Beech Natural Monument and a chestnut forest, inviting you to slow down because, even if short, it concentrates many points of interest. Along the way, you encounter the Alum Mines, where the path’s theme becomes concrete amidst traces and stories of miners’ work. The route returns to the heart of the town, in Piazza della Repubblica, where you can also find the Archaeological Naturalistic Mining Museum. Do not miss the sea view from the panoramic spot at the entrance to the beech forest: a surprising view that closes the loop with the feeling of being "much further away" than the kilometers suggest.

    Author’s recommendation

Walker Credential (€2) available in the bars of Allumiere: with the support the Path offer and collect stamps. Even though the kilometers are not many, it is recommended to split the experience into 2–3 days to enjoy the museum, mines, quarries, archaeology, biodiversity, and local hospitality (and take advantage of the stop in town).

    Safety information

Due to the presence of wildlife, it is advised to prepare for possible encounters by reading guides on how to behave in such events https://www.greenplanner.it/.../come-comportarsi-animali.../
Animals are our friends, respect their spaces! Do not leave any type of waste in the area (not even a tissue).
For emergencies contact the EMERGENCY NUMBER 112
*The association promoting the Miners' Path assumes no responsibility in case of emergencies or logistical problems*

    SEASONS
The path is mainly autumnal, springtime, and also very doable in winter. In summer, you could have too much heat on the yellow loop.

    WATER SUPPLY
There are 3 water supply points:

    • The TONNA FOUNTAIN in the center of Allumiere square
    • The fountain in the center of the Natural Monument Beech Forest on the blue loop
    • A water spring where the yellow and purple loops cross.
    • It is recommended to start from home with at least 1.5 liters per person

WALKER CREDENTIAL, STAMPS, MUSEUM, AND DIPLOMA

    1) Walker Credential

The APS Il Cammino dell'Allume is a non-profit volunteer association. The Walker Credential is strongly recommended as it is the main form of self-financing for the project.

Where to get it and cost: At one of the bars in Allumiere, with a small donation of €2 (It is the only form of funding for the Path, please support it!)

    2) Stamps (how they work)

    • There are 3 loops, but 4 total stamps.
    • 1 stamp for each loop (so if you complete all three loops in one day, at return you can get 3 stamps).

Where to get loop stamps: Back in Allumiere, at one of the town bars: you can choose the same bar where you got the credential or another one and kindly ask the bartender to apply the stamp related to the loop(s) walked that day.

    3) The “fourth stamp” (Museum)

The fourth stamp is issued only after visiting the Archaeological Naturalistic Mining Museum in Piazza della Repubblica (Allumiere).

    •  Museum access with a discounted ticket of €2 by showing the credential.
    • The museum stamp can be applied before, after, or whenever you prefer in relation to the loops.
    • Always check times and availability of guided tours: 0766 967793.

    4) The fifth stamp: you will apply it yourself after completing the urban trekking discovering our town, following the map.

    5) "Guardian of the Mining Lands" Diploma

To obtain the Guardian of the Mining Lands Diploma, prior request via email to cammino.allume@libero.it is necessary, indicating a phone number to be contacted and to receive delivery procedures.

    Requirements

    • 3 loop stamps + 1 museum stamp + 1 urban trekking (total 5 stamps)
    • Prior booking via email

    Cost

    • €5 (delivery methods communicated via email).

    Roadbook

The Path is entirely marked with CAI signage which are the classic white and red flags, but integrated with colored signage of the MINERS' PATH, at the junctions between differently colored loops.

If you are very skilled and experienced, you can also follow it exclusively by following the signs (we still recommend using GPS aids)

The specific signage of the Miners' Path (the colored one that you will find only at the most important junctions) is organized as follows: multiple color stripes of the same size if you are following a path common to two loops; one larger stripe and one smaller stripe when you are following a path that allows you to reach another one.

DIRECTIONS OF TRAVEL As you wish. The path is marked in both directions, sometimes using signs indicating ALLUMIERE for the return. However, we suggest traveling all the loops clockwise.
