DMO Etruskey
A route through the lands of the Etruscans: 7 stages among necropolises, ancient roads, and historic villages in the heart of Etruscan Lazio.
A walking journey among the mysteries of the ancient Etruscan people, through tuff-carved canyons, stone villages, and woods. The Etruscan Path crosses Upper Lazio along 154 km in 7 stages, connecting two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Banditaccia Necropolis of Cerveteri and the Monterozzi Necropolis of Tarquinia – up to the evocative archaeological area of Vulci.
It is a path of strong emotions and deep silences, unfolding on dirt trails, ancient via cave, and rural roads, touching ancient baths, waterfalls, and cultivated fields. Ideal for those seeking a regenerating journey off the beaten paths, among volcanic hills, river valleys, and small villages where time seems to slow down.
The identity of the Etruscan Path arises from the meeting of millenary culture and intact rural landscapes. It is not just a hiking itinerary: it is a narrative route that gives voice to an ancient civilization through the places where it lived and dialogued with nature. It is a journey in which each stage is a threshold between the visible and the invisible, between archaeological heritage and the daily life of villages. Walking here means taking part in a story that unites man and land, restoring meaning to the slow act of walking as a practice of knowledge, respect, and discovery.
The trail is suitable for all lovers of trekking and slow exploration. The stages are connected by railway lines and immersed in environments of great naturalistic and cultural value: beech woods, gorges, necropolises, tuff plateaus, ancient baths. The route is dotted with places to stop and be welcomed that tell an authentic and little-known Tuscia. The Etruscan Path is an experience to be lived slowly, with awareness and a spirit of discovery, to rediscover the meaning of travel as an act of deep connection with the territory.
