Alta Via no. 1 - Stage 1

Take the path that follows the western shore of the romantic Lago di Braies to the first inlet, then enter the easy trail marked no. 1 that follows the bank to its southernmost tip. From here the climb begins, becoming progressively steeper and more tiring along the valley dominated by the first outcrops of Croda del Becco. After ascending a basin thick with dwarf pines, you will reach a narrow pass created by two rocks, where you bypass the drop by passing on the left and then proceed to the upper groove. 

After passing through a forest, you will arrive at a concave clearing and then to a stony area where, if you pay attention, you can find a small spring. Zigzagging, you will finally reach the pass called Porta sora ‘l Forn (or Forcella sora Forno-Ofenscharte), 2,388 m, near a votive chapel. 

Descending slightly, you will finally reach Rifugio Biella at Croda del Becco, 2,327 m, overlooked by the immense rocky slab of the characteristic and peculiar Croda del Becco, 2,810 m.

The summit is easily reachable via a decent rock path in about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the refuge, and the view from the top is wonderful.
