We went by car to a small parking lot at Pinnisbach (free but small). Alternatively, the train parking lot 11er is also possible. Forest road to Karalm is quite good. From Pinnisalm, some loose gravel but no problem. On foot from Karalm to Zwölfernieder. There the path splits in all directions. We go “left” over the ridge, partly exposed but no problem for surefooted hikers. Caution when wet.

Great view of Habicht and Stubaier Glacier all the way out to IBK. Same way back.

Author’s recommendation

Relatively lonely route from Kastenalm. It is very windy here during föhn. Definitely stop at one of the alpine huts. We were at the Issenanger.
