Immediately after the station, walk 200m flat northwards to the left of the tracks. You will enter a service road and follow it according to the signposts. The road quickly becomes quite steep. Before the first hairpin bend, a hiking trail leads up through the eastern mountain forest to a saddle. Here you switch to the steep western slope and cross a narrow path in the steep forest. Some short rocky steps are secured with a nylon rope. After the strenuous flank ascent, the summit ridge is reached via a short flat section. In the now open forest, you ascend the rocky southeast ridge to the subpeak. Then you cross the rocky ridge on the west side down to the summit rock. At the western rock foot, we briefly cross northwards. A steep and well-stepped rock gully leads directly up to the summit cross on the right (easy climbing UIAA I-).
Descent to the marked hiking trail via secured rocky steps north of the ascent gully. Now we follow the signpost "Durchgang" to the right and descend to the saddle in front of the north summit. In rocky larch corridors, we quickly reach the broad, unadorned north summit. Behind it, a very broad and rather flat mountain ridge leads down into the hollow before the Steineck. On the forest road, you would continue to the left towards Mairalm/Gmunden. However, we follow the ridge northwards to the "Durchgang" junction uphill. Now it goes quite steeply down eastwards on a somewhat earthy and often damp path with short protections into the Hauergraben. After many steep hairpins, we reach a service road which we follow past the hiking car park for quite a while to a farm with a mill. Here we turn right, cross the Bachgraben, and follow the service road slightly uphill southwards. Soon the path leads past a farm to the village road Traxenbichl/Grünau. Along this paved road, we return to Grünau station.
