The second day of the Pirin route is already a highlight: on the one hand, the highest point of the route is reached with Vichren; on the other hand, the path along the ridge from Suchodol to Vichren is a very special experience.

The northwestern part of the Pirin Mountains is characterized by a rugged chain of limestone and marble, which culminates at Vichren as the highest summit of the Pirin (and the second highest in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula)

After a morning ascent through the Suchodol valley (literally: "Dry Valley") to the eponymous pass, the route today follows this ridge - sometimes directly on it, sometimes slightly below. The Koncheto - literally: "Little Horse" - is an about 200 m long ridge section secured with steel cables. After the Preval pass, there is an about half-hour ascent to the Vichren summit - and after returning to the pass, downhill to the Vichren hut.

Vichren is simply the lookout summit of the Pirin

    Safety information

The route has secured sections: at Koncheto before the Preval Pass as well as on the ascent and descent to Vichren. Preferably only hike during dry weather! The entire ridge is very exposed during thunderstorms - since thunderstorms are common in the summer afternoons, an early start is recommended.

    Roadbook

The entire route from the Yavorov Hut to the Vichren summit follows the red trail mark - together with the yellow mark up to the Suchodol saddle. It initially goes through the Suchodol valley, then quite steeply up to the Suchodol saddle. From here, the greatest part of the ascent is done - the trail now goes partly on the ridge, partly below it, up and down (but generally continuing to ascend). The Koncheto ridge is secured with massive steel cables - this is no problem in dry weather. Be careful when wet - and definitely do not proceed during thunderstorms!

Afterwards, it goes downhill to the Preval saddle. Here you may deposit luggage, before a further steep ascent to the summit of Vichren takes about half an hour. There are secured sections here as well.

After returning to the Preval saddle, follow the green marking downhill - after the Kazan shelter, the trail branches again, and you follow the red marking on the right downhill to the Vichren hut. Here there are again some rocky and steep descent sections to overcome.

Es geht gut ohne - zumindest, solange es trocken ist. Ich habe da auch schon viele Leute mit Turnschuhen gesehen - ok, das würde ich nicht gerade empfehlen...
