On a sand-based foot/bike path along the Saalach to the dam of the Saalachsee. About 500 m further on, the start of the Waxriessteig. After crossing the federal road, follow a forest road, which is left after 200 meters onto a path branching off to the right. In many hairpin turns, partly exposed and steep, with beautiful deep views, the Waxriessteig winds through the lightly wooded west flank of the Predigtstuhl. On the forest shoulder of the Gatterl (1267 m), the most strenuous part of the ascent is done. It continues significantly flatter to the junction with the Röthelbach forest road. Past the Lower Schlegelalm, you reach the Schlegelmulde (refreshments available at Schlegelalm) and within a few minutes the Predigtstuhl Berghotel (cable car station). Back down to the valley comfortably and knee-friendly with the Predigtstuhl cable car or via the Röthelbach forest road (which stretches) to Baumgarten. The descent via the ascent route is not recommended.

From Salzburg (B21): from Gablerknoten continue on B21 to the Karlstein/Predigtstuhl cable car exit, turn right, go straight over the Luitpold Bridge into Thumseestraße
From Berchtesgaden (B20): follow B20, straight over the roundabout at the Saline towards Inzell (St2101), cross the Kreta Bridge, at the traffic light turn left into Nonner Straße and continue to Thumseestraße
From Lofer (B21): entrance to Bad Reichenhall, continue 350 m on B21 to Karlstein/Predigtstuhl cable car exit, turn left, go straight over the Luitpold Bridge into Thumseestraße
From Inzell (B305->ST2101): first traffic light intersection after entering Bad Reichenhall and before the Kreta Bridge turn left into Nonner Straße and continue to Thumseestraße
