    Safety information

Up to the fork "Vordere Sommerwand" - "Sommerwandferner" the ascent is easy, safe, and also well suited for children. On the summit ascent, children must be well supervised (1:1) and ideally secured.

    Roadbook

From the Franz-Senn-Hütte we follow the signposts "Vordere Sommerwand / Sommerwandferner" in a southern direction. The narrow, well-marked path leads directly to the striking "Hüttengrat" ridge, which runs from the Vordere Sommerwand towards the Franz-Senn-Hütte. In switchbacks and without difficulty, we first reach the foreground Graskopf at 2300 m, before the path now ascends on the left side of the ridge or at the foot of the east flank of the Sommerwand. At about 2500 m, the path turns west and after another 100 vertical meters, we reach the fork where our ascent branches off the path to the Sommerwandferner (signpost).

First in a northern direction, then in switchbacks, the path now leads very exposed and steeply through the east flank of the Vordere Sommerwand up to 2670 m. Here we reach the ridge (cairns), which at first is still flat and wide, but becomes narrower and more exposed towards the summit about 150 meters away. In some sections of the ridge, rope protections help, but sure-footedness and a head for heights are definitely required.
