Due to its extremely scenic location, the Wank is anything but an insider tip. It is therefore best to undertake the tour during the week.

When there is usually still snow on the north side in late spring, the south side of the Wank is usually already bare. And even until late autumn, this sun-kissed mountain tour is highly recommended in the truest sense of the word ... especially as there is usually good visibility.
Author’s recommendation
Overnight stay at the summit! Especially during the week, when the Wankhaus is not so busy, an overnight stay at the Gipfelhaus is a really great idea. Info: www.alpenverein-gapa.de

Safety information
No technical difficulties or exposed sections. In summer, however, make sure you wear good sun protection and stay hydrated.Roadbook
Follow the "Schalmeiweg" to the east and you will reach the gorge of the same name. Continue along a wide gravel path, cross a side stream and then turn left. Now follow a narrow footpath (steps in places) up a steeper incline through the forest. You come to a fork and keep right here to reach the Gamshütte hut, first steeply and then in a flatter crossing. Turn left in front of it, cross a final section of forest and, after keeping left at another fork (signposted "Eckenhütte"), reach a large meadow where you leave the unmanned Eckenhütte on the right. You come to a wide footpath and follow this to the right. (Signposted " Wank, Wankbahn middle station " ). The ascent leads uphill in many hairpin bends in the sparse pine forest. Keep right at the next fork (signposted "Wank"). Without the slightest problem of orientation, the route continues uphill in many hairpin bends at a mostly pleasant gradient. After the pine trees have been replaced by mountain pines, you reach open meadow terrain. Keep left in front of the cable car mountain station and climb directly up to the Wank summit house, where a unique panorama awaits, including down to the Garmisch basin with the Wetterstein mountains towering behind it and across to the Karwendel ranges towering to the east.
