The Uri Rotstock is a striking, two-colored summit pyramid at the southern end of Lake Lucerne. Not only because of the view of the lake but also because of the view of the opposite Blüemlisalp glacier, the long approach to the summit is worthwhile. The summit can be reached either from the east via an alpine path from the Chli Valley or from the west via a mountain hiking trail from the Grosstal. The nicest is a combination of both routes with a valley change at the Sassigrat. This creates a scenic and varied round trip. Starting from Musenalp, the summit is doable for fit mountaineers in one day thanks to the cable car. Overnight stays at the Gitschenhøreli hut or Biwaldalp make it possible to divide into two days. The approach from Musenalp leads over the remains of the Chli Valley firn. Although it no longer has crevasses, crampons and ice axe can be necessary for the steep ascent in case of icing. The route from the Grosstal is easier and therefore better suited for descent.
