CAMINS
The Valarties (Arties) Valley that we will cross towards the majestic Montardo is one of the entrances to the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park from its northern side, the park with the highest concentration of glacial lakes in the entire Pyrenees.
Today we will cross the Port de Rius at 2,340 m, where we will find the glacial Lac de Rius located at 2,310 m. Near Lac de Rius is Lac Tòrt de Rius (2,350 m), also glacial in origin. Their waters feed the Valarties river that joins the Garona River in Arties.

Equipment
MOUNTAIN FOOTWEAR (mountain boot or shoe)
In each stage and depending on the condition of the terrain and/or weather forecast, the type of shaft height of the footwear (boot or shoe) will be recommended.
CLOTHING
Since the routes pass through a mid and high mountain environment, and as it is a territory where the weather can change quickly and drastically, WE RECOMMEND the following elements regardless of the difficulty of the route:
- Long trousers. If the characteristics of the route along with the expected weather allow the use of shorts, a piece to cover the remaining uncovered leg should be carried, either a second pair of trousers or long leggings in the backpack in all cases.
- First body layer (t-shirt) with short breathable sleeves and quick drying (tank tops are not recommended as they are not suitable when carrying backpacks).
- Second body layer, thermal layer consisting of a thin/medium fleece or long-sleeve thermal shirt.
- Third body layer, waterproof and windproof rain jacket with hood.
- Cap / Buff or similar for sun protection.
Although some of these garments may not be used during the itinerary, it is recommended to carry them in the backpack throughout the route and ready to use in case of weather changes or any unexpected event, to avoid hypothermia in case of weather change or incident that might prolong the day.
MINIMUM BACKPACK CONTENT
- Mountain backpack of 20-30 liters with its waterproof cover.
- Personal first aid kit with special medicines if required.
- Water (minimum 2 liters, but this will be confirmed in the briefing).
- Food (depending on the duration of the route).
- Sunscreen, cap/hat and sunglasses.
- Documentation and charged phone
