The path to the Karröster Alm leads over a geological nature trail that explains the geological features of the Tschirgant in many display panels. From there, it goes first through light forest, then through dwarf pine, and finally partly along the ridge, partly on the north flank, with incomparable panoramic views in all directions to the three summit crosses with summit books. The descent leads through the former mining area, where remains of a mining house and partially reinforced, partially open adit mouths of the old tunnels can still be found.

    Roadbook

From the parking lot, follow the signs to the Karröster Alm: The ascent via the geological nature trail is very interesting. After about 1.5 hours, the alm is reached at 1467m. Here we choose the eastward path to the Tschirgant. First across meadows, then through light forest, we arrive at an idyllic crossroads at the foot of the north flank of the Tschirgant with a bench, table, and signs. We follow the "Bergsteig" (mountain path) signage. The next section, which is also part of the Eagle Walk, leads further east, ascending higher, then finally turning west again, quite steeply through dwarf pine up to the saddle and thus to the ridge rising from the Simmering. The first summit cross is reached in a few minutes from the saddle, heading east: the Haiminger Kreuz (east summit of the Tschirgant) - 2232 m. Back at the saddle, we now turn west. We reach a signposted crossroads with a wooden table and bench, where the descent to the Karrer Alm begins. However, we continue ascending, mostly north of the ridge, on a well-marked path, first to the highest point, marked with a pole, and near it to the main summit of the Tschirgant, the Karrer Kreuz - 2372 m (3 h from the Karröster Alm). The markings lead us westward to the west summit, the Karröster Kreuz (2175 m). Here begins the descent to the Bergwachthütte (UIAA I), which takes us over blocky terrain to a ledge, where very clear markings lead to the north side. Via a wire cable secured ramp, we quickly reach the Bergwachthütte (2175 m). From here, we either choose the "Schmittensteig," which leads us back below the Bergwachthütte past an open adit at the first hairpin bend, then through dwarf pine, and finally through the forest back to the Karröster Alm. Or we hike on the marked path directly along the western ridge, which passes through the former mining area and also past an open adit somewhat hidden under dwarf pine, later joining the forest road to the Karröster Alm. From the alm, we follow the geological nature trail back to the parking lot.
