Our starting point, the Kinderalm, was founded in 1919 at an altitude of 1400 m. For decades, it provided recuperation stays for children threatened by tuberculosis and those in need of recovery, before operations were discontinued in 1981. Today, the Marienparadies Monastery exists at the Kinderalm, founded in 1986 by the "Little Sisters of Bethlehem," a French order. Hand-painted icons are displayed and available for purchase, as are pottery items. From here we first hike to the Hochglocker, which has been an exposed grass hill since a storm in 2001 and, at 1588 m, offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Hochkönig, the Salzach valley, and the Hohe Tauern, then onward to the Hubertus Chapel and the Pronebenalm. Along the way, we encounter "oases of tranquility" that are assigned to different themes.
