From the parking lot on the SP32, after 50 m at the fork in the path on the left, trail 255 leads steeply and gravely uphill through scrubland over steps. Pass a climbing aid with wire ropes to reach the remains of the walls of the fortifications with the chapel of San Leonardo. There are magnificent views over the north coast from here and the mighty castle ruins are an impressive sight at the top. On steps over the increasingly rocky path, the trail leads upwards with increasingly impressive views and finally over concrete steps to the castle entrance with some benches for resting. You can enjoy fantastic panoramic views over the north coast as far as Monte Capanne, and on the right the path leads in an arc around the castle walls to a rocky descent into a small hollow. A gentle scramble takes you down the rocky outcrop and up the opposite rocky outcrop, slightly exposed, to the best viewpoint of the tour. From here you can enjoy unique views of the Castello del Volterraio! The
