Safety information
A very steep meadow is crossed a little below the summit. Although the path is quite wide here, surefootedness is a desirable trait at this point.Roadbook
At the start of the route, leave the Farchant station to the left onto Bahnhofstraße. Follow this to the right and cross the main road. On the other side, continue in the same direction onto Gernweg. At the end, veer diagonally left and continue on Am Gern towards the church. Pass it on the right into Spielleitenweg, which leads to the edge of the valley with a playground. On its left side begins a pleasant path that shortly thereafter goes over a stepped waterfall. Continue up several switchbacks to a crossing forest track. Follow this about 50 meters to the left and then, signposted, turn right onto the next path. This one is a bit rougher than the first but also continues upwards without steps. You cross a first forest road and shortly thereafter reach a second. There, turn right and in the following bend continue straight ahead, ascending only moderately until a turning area. There, a path leads off to the left, which climbs more steeply again and soon crosses a timber haulage path. The forest is now somewhat lighter: after a previous logging, the area has not yet been reforested. Through numerous hairpin bends continue to another intersecting service road. Follow this to the right again and after about 200 meters at a somewhat inconspicuous fork, turn left onto a path. This climbs up to a saddle. Follow the markings to the left and go up a few more meters. Then the path travels flat across a very steep grassy slope before rising a few meters again. Finally, follow the summit ridge to the right to the highest point.
The descent path leads back along the ridge. At the junction with the ascent path, continue straight ahead. This well-marked and very varied path leads westwards along the ridge. The path gradually widens and then continues as a narrow forest road to a larger junction (Alpenvereinskarte: point 1294). There, turn left steeply down the Gießenbacher Weg. This service road finally leads into a forest road. A short connecting path shortens a long loop. To do this, go a few meters to the right and then immediately descend left on a path. Crossing two streams, you soon reach the forest road again. This time, follow it to the right through a bend and then continue descending on a path to the right. Always going downwards, you reach another crossing forest road. Follow this to the left and continue over the extensive Reschberg meadows with a slight gradient. The meadows end at the wooded foothills of the Grubenkopf. Descend further on a broad service road to the right and thus south around the Grubenkopf. After a right-hand bend, the Loisach valley is almost reached: at the edge of Burgrain, the path reaches the valley at a parking lot. Staying on the path, head towards the middle of the valley. At a fork, take the paved left path, which shortly thereafter bends almost at a right angle to the left and now leads directly to Farchant. Shortly before the village, the path forks again. The left path turns into Schulstraße, which finally leads to the church. From there, return to the starting point on the paths and roads already known from the outward journey.

Sturdy footwear is recommended for this route. For the descent sections, poles may be helpful depending on preference.
Since there are no refreshment options available during the entire route, be sure to bring enough drinks and food – the summit snack from your own backpack tastes best anyway!
