To Lake Sorapiss
The milky turquoise-green Lago di Sorapiss is an extremely rewarding hiking destination in the mountain range of the same name. We take the standard route down from Passo Tre Croci and approach the fascinating mountain lake with its white sandy beaches, which lies in a rocky basin framed by massive walls; from above, we pass the Forcella Marcoira saddle and the vast, desolate scree cirque of Ciadin del Làudo. The steep ascent through a scree gully to Forcella Marcoira, as well as sections secured with wire ropes on the northeast spur of Cima del Làudo and during the descent along the standard route from Lago di Sorapiss to Passo Tre Croci, require sure-footedness and a head for heights. The cozy Rifugio Vandelli, located in the immediate vicinity of Lago di Sorapiss, is an ideal place to stop for a break along the way.
