The route initially runs through the forest but soon offers great views repeatedly. When leaving the forest road, a path follows through beech forest and later steeply over an open area up to a saddle – here you have a nice view of the Totes Gebirge with the Großer Priel. The route continues on a rocky, narrow path up to the first peak, with a beautiful view of the Alpine foothills and the Traunstein. The ridge walk is the highlight of the route. We reach the Gaisberg with a small cross. Now continue east, everywhere deadwood and constant views of the Priel massif. The descent to Pfaffenboden requires concentration again due to many fallen trees. From Pfaffenboden, an unmarked path leads to the last peak. The snow breakage has done a lot of damage here, so this must be bypassed over an open mountain slope. At the last peak (Hochbuchberg), again great wide views. The descent to the hut is easy and the onward way to the parking lot as well.

Safety information
Surefootedness and a head for heights are necessary as the paths are narrow and rocky. During the ridge crossing, there are repeated deep views down the steep wall.Roadbook
From the parking lot, right onto the forest road towards Gradau. After about 30 minutes, signpost to the right and immediately left into the forest again. On the path through beech forest up to the gravel road, cross it and left into the forest. The path becomes narrower and reaches a clearing below the rock wall. Steep again up to the saddle. Now left on a rocky path to the Dürre Eck. Then eastwards until the path coming up from the Mollner Hut leads up. Continue east along the ridge path above the quarry. Then steeply down through windbreak to the forest road, right to Pfaffenboden. At the wayside shrine, an unmarked path leads up to Hochbuchberg. Then down and up a rocky path through forest and meadow slope to the Grünbuchberg hut. From the hut, forest road to Brettmaisalm and further right over meadow slope to the transition into the forest. Follow the path and at the next fork right into Dorngraben to the parking lot.
